Building Facilities & Maintenance

Building facilities are responsible for the upkeep and smooth operation of the building. This involves managing the Institute’s buildings services, space, facilities contracts, maintenance arrangements and utilities as well as progressing improvement projects alongside providing day-to-day maintenance support.

Our People

They do this through working closely with colleagues across the Institute, as well as external partners, to ensure that the Institute has the reliable, high-quality infrastructure it needs to deliver world-class cancer research.

Health & Safety

Health and Safety supports the Institute’s operations by providing expert, practical guidance that enables research, laboratory, facilities and support activities to be carried out safely, responsibly and in line with legal and regulatory requirements.

Through specialist advice on areas including biological safety, genetic modification, COSHH, fire safety, audits and inspections, Our Health and Safety function helps ensure that people, research activity and the wider working environment are protected while enabling high-quality scientific work to progress effectively.

Laboratory Services

Laboratory Services helps keep the Institute’s research laboratories running smoothly every day. The team prepares, cleans and sterilises reusable laboratory materials, makes specialist solutions and growth media used in experiments, and helps maintain key pieces of laboratory equipment.

They also restock tissue culture areas and collect laboratory waste, ensuring researchers have safe, clean and reliable facilities and supplies. By providing this essential behind-the-scenes support, Laboratory Services enables scientists to focus on their research and helps the Institute continue to deliver high-quality cancer research.

Stores

Stores provides the Institute’s researchers and support teams with the materials, supplies and delivery services they need to carry out their work effectively. The team manages access to commonly used laboratory and office items, receives and distributes external orders, and arranges courier collections for outgoing samples and materials. Stores also works with suppliers to help secure best value and reliable service for the Institute. By making sure essential items and deliveries are handled quickly and effectively, Stores helps keep research and day-to-day operations moving smoothly.

Laboratory Management

Laboratory Management provides the operational support that enables our research groups to work safely, efficiently and effectively. The team oversees core laboratory services including shared equipment, reagents and consumables, chemical waste management, cryostorage, gases, laboratory moves and service contracts. Working closely with other functions within the Institute as well as external suppliers, Laboratory Management ensures that laboratory systems are well maintained, compliant with relevant standards, and responsive to the changing needs of the Institute’s research community.
