Internships

For undergraduate and masters students

Internships

Each year, we host a number of interns in our research groups (usually over the summer period), regularly they go on to PhD positions here or elsewhere. This is an opportunity for undergraduate and masters students considering a career in cancer research to gain experience working in state-of-the-art labs alongside world-class scientists. Our research groups study a wide range of topics related to the cell biology of cancer and use a number of different techniques in their work, and thus provide a very valuable training experience for students.

In2research

In2research is a one-year access programme developed by In2scienceUK and UCL designed to enhance access to postgraduate research degrees and career opportunities for people from low socioeconomic backgrounds and underrepresented groups. The programme supports widening participation in research through workshops, mentoring, professional development away days and an eight-week research placement.

The CRUK Scotland Institute hosted our first cohort of summer placement students through In2research in 2025 and are delighted to say that we will host our next cohort in summer 2026!

In2research participants will be paid a tax-free stipend equivalent to the National Living Wage. Over the eight-weeks of the full-time research work placement, this amounts to above £3,000.
