Research Services support research groups at the CRUK Scotland Institute and University of Glasgow colleagues based in the Beatson building. Covering Building Facilities, Central Services, Information Services, Laboratory Management, Molecular Technology and Reagent Services, and Health and Safety in its remit, the range of roles is varied, from lab aides in Central Services, building services engineers in Building Facilities to lab management professionals in IT, Lab Management, and Health and Safety.
For roles other than lab aide, a relevant degree or equivalent qualification and experience is required. We typically only consider applicants for Research Service roles when a vacancy arises.
Careers in Administration at the CRUK Scotland Institute include roles in Research Support, Finance, Human Resources and Secretarial/Office Services.
There are various roles within Administration, many of which require formal qualifications at degree level or equivalent, whilst others are based on experience within a particular functional area, for example accounts or secretarial/office services. We typically only consider applicants for Administration roles when a vacancy arises.
We see postdocs as pillars of the research and intellectual activities of their own groups and of the Institute as a whole. Our postdoctoral training, which is overseen by a senior member of the Institute (Professor Jen Morton), is designed to promote the development of outstanding and dedicated early career scientists.
Any current vacancies are detailed below. However, if you are interested in the work we do and would like to find out if there are other positions becoming available soon or if you are considering applying for an independent postdoctoral fellowship, please contact individual Group Leaders directly by following this link to our Research pages.
The CRUK Scotland Institute is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, situated in Glasgow and hosting approximately 250 talented researchers at various career stages, including several Junior Group Leaders. We are renowned for our world-class in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis and have an excellent reputation for cutting-edge fundamental and translational research in our three key strategic areas: biology of early disease; energetic stress / cancer metabolism; and microenvironment / metastasis. As well as generous core funding from Cancer Research UK, the Institute receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. We pride ourselves on our highly collaborative research environment fostered by our outstanding state of the art advanced imaging, proteomic, metabolomic and spatial profiling technologies and expertise.
The School of Cancer Sciences is closely allied with the CRUK Scotland Institute and supported by numerous external grants and our Cancer Research UK Scotland Cancer Centre https://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/cancersciences/. The main site is the Wolfson-Wohl Translational Cancer Research Centre, which houses clinical, translational and basic scientists involved in precision oncology.
Our overarching research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness, accountability and integrity. The diversity of our staff and students is also what makes the Institute such a vibrant place to work and advance discoveries in cancer research. Family friendly policies, our collaborative ethos, a focus on good mental health and well-being and opportunities for all help to create an enjoyable and inclusive workplace where your voice matters.
At the Beatson, we have a small number of adjunct faculty members, who are employed by the University of Glasgow but whose research groups are based in our building on the Garscube Estate alongside ours. Thus, they benefit from close interaction and collaboration with Beatson scientists as well as access to our state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies.
Details of positions available within these groups can be found below. Since these are University of Glasgow positions, successful applicants will be employed by the University under its terms and conditions. We are also therefore unable to answer recruitment enquiries via this website. Applicants must apply online at the University's website http://www.glasgow.ac.uk/jobs quoting the relevant reference number.
Computational Biology and Data Science are fundamental aspects of our research programmes and are supported by a core research-active Bioinformatics team that works collaboratively with groups throughout the Institute.
